Writing for impact

“I could not have done it without your help in writing my essays!”

– 2026 coaching client after receiving her first college acceptance letter

As a journalist for 30+ years, including 26 years at The Washington Post, I have deep experience finding stories and telling them in clear, compelling ways to capture–and keep–readers’ attention.

As the parent of two college students, I appreciate how daunting the application process can feel. I know when teenagers need encouragement, nudging or gentle nagging to get it all done.

As a former volunteer alumni interviewer for Princeton University, I also know what connects, and what doesn’t.

After all, essays are a strategic and critical piece of college and grad school applications. They help set you apart. The best ones leave students feeling “This is so me” and admissions committees thinking, “This student is an ideal fit.”

With admissions officers quick to recognize AI slop, it’s more important than ever for students to bring their own distinctive writing voice, and authentic self, to their applications.

In one-on-one Zoom meetings, I guide and empower them step by step, from brainstorming creative ideas to teasing out vivid details and polishing the final draft. Along the way, I help them break down the work into less overwhelming, bite-sized chunks so they and their families can still enjoy each other and their lives.

Like top journalists, my students hit their deadlines. Most importantly, they enter college and grad school as stronger, more confident writers and critical thinkers.

I’m now filling spots for the Summer/Fall 2026 application season.
